In 2014 Lake Como was classified by The Huffington Post as the most beautiful lake in the world, for its microclimate and its surroundings characterized by small villages and sumptuous villas.

LAGLIO, BRIENNO AND NESSO

Laglio, a town now known for the residence of actor George Clooney, (who purchased the splendid Villa Oleandra in 2002) is located on the western shore of Lake Como.

Above the hamlet of Torriggia there is the famous 'Buco dell'Orso', a cave made up of three underground lakes.

Brienno is one of the oldest villages, remained virtually unchanged for over a century.

Nesso is located along the road from Como to Bellagio. The village, with its typical houses, meets around the two main attractions: the Orrido waterfall and the medieval bridge of Civera.

COMACINA ISLAND & LENNO

Take two hours to visit this pearl on Lake Como, the only way to reach Comacina Island is by boarding from Sala Comacina. On the island it is possible to walk in the luxuriant nature, you can admire several Roman remains and the ruins of the Roman Basilica dedicated to Saint Euphemia.

 

Not far away, continuing along the shores of the lake, you will find Lenno with its Villa Balbianello, this villa is owned by Fai and has become famous for being part of the set of the film 007 - Casino Royale and an episode of the saga 'Star Wars '.

OSSUCCIO AND TREMEZZO

Ossuccio is a village of pre-Roman origin located on the western shore of the lake. Its most famous attraction is the Sacro Monte where the Sanctuary of the Vergine del Soccorso stands, which preserves a statue of the Virgin.

Located on the slopes of Mount Procione is the enchanting village of Tremezzo characterized by the sumptuous Villa Carlotta. The seventeenth-century villa, now turned into a museum, contains sculptures by Canova and Thorvaldsen, not to be missed, the wonderful Italian botanical garden with a variety of over 500 species of plants.

CERNOBBIO, MOLTRASIO

AND TORNO

Cernobbio, on the western shore, is a renomated international tourist resort, famous for its majestic villas and promenades along the lakefront. In Moltrasio, famous for its limestone quarries, the musician Vincenzo Bellini and the British Prime Minister Winston Churchill stayed.

Illustrious guests such as: Napoleon, Alessandro Manzoni, Ugo Foscolo, Stendhal, Byron, Giuseppe Verdi, Vincenzo Bellini and Rossini stayed in the rooms of Villa Pliniana. To see in Torno: the Parish Church of Santa Tecla with its ancient bell tower and the Church of San Giovanni Battista del Chiodo.

BELLAGIO

Bellagio, also called the pearl of Lake Como, is a renowned village located halfway between the two brunches of the lake, it is an international tourist destination and attracts millions of tourists every year. Do not miss the famous and historic Villa Melzi in Bellagio owned by the Melzi d'Eril family with its museum and its amazing gardens.

LEZZENO AND VARENNA

On the eastern shore, you find Lezzeno. From here you can admire a wonderful view of the lake and see Villa Balbianello and the Comacina Island in the distance.

 

Varenna is a small village located on a promontory of Lake Como at the mouth of the Esino stream. Varenna looks like an oil painting, is characterized by narrow streets, narrow alleys and colorful houses that are reflected in the water. Among the main attractions: the medieval church of San Giorgio, Villa Cipressi and Villa Monastero.
